Bad Words

If I could figure out Facebook, I probably wouldn't be here. Ha! Not a very auspicious start, huh? Well, it's the bloody truth. I don't really understand Facebook....well, I mean, I get the networking part -- the virtual "running into" old friends and stuff -- that's cool. But all the other stuff - all the "apps" -- gawd, I hate that word almost as much as the oft touted "appy" Seriously. Is it that bad? Do we have to shorten every word?

Speaking of words I hate, how 'bout (that's for all you word shorteners out there) we list a few. I invite you to respond with your own -- in fact I'd love to hear the words you hate! Okay some of these are actually more than one word -- not in order of importance:

1) "journey" a true journey is something someone like Marco Polo took, it is not an emotional experience or a thought process. For example getting through a sad movie is not a "journey" Learning something new about myself, like, for example that I am capable of restraint when people use the word "journey" is not itself a "journey."

2) "givin' 'er" now I'm not quite sure if I've spelled this correctly, but it means (loosely) to do something with great vigor. As in "I was really givin er" I find this most offensive. Some may find me a bit uppity here -- I know, you might think me a bit, oh, shall we say, snobbish? I can live with that.

3) 24/7 I have no rationale for this one. I just don't like it.

Okay, I think I've spent enough time painting myself as a nasty picky witch! I'm not really (honest!) it's just these things -- well, okay, I'm not a fan of "hooped" either, but seriously, I love language and all the fantastic ways it can be used.....okay most of the ways it can be used...

I hope you will chime in and add your thoughts to the list.
